BERC |
Training BERC provides assistance to firms in applying for corporate tax credits for investing in training their employees and hiring certain individuals. Programs also exist to help firms identify sources of labor and recruit employees. BERC assists businesses with
applying for Customized Job Training Grants through the
Connecticut Department of Labor. These
grants are made available to Connecticut manufacturers to help offset
the cost of upgrading the skills of their employees to help their firms
remain more competitive. The Workplace Inc is Southwestern Connecticut’s Regional Workforce Development Board. The WorkPlace works with employers to train their employees. Customized job training services and incentives are available for specific high-growth sectors and for improving the skills and opportunities of low-wage workers. Many services are available to employers through CTWorksSW.org In 1999, BERC founded the Metal Manufacturers’ Education and Training Alliance (METAL), a network of local metal manufacturers from the Greater Bridgeport CT area. METAL is focused on keeping Connecticut manufacturers competitive by building a high quality workforce through workforce development and enhancing productivity and competitiveness through lean manufacturing training.
